Installation and Update help
FireFox:
Browser Requirement: Firefox 1.5 or higher.
To install LibX, you must have Firefox open.
- To install Harvard LibX for HOLLIS catalog,
Click here, then restart Firefox.
- To install Harvard LibX for HOLLIS Classic catalog, for Firefox 2.0 and higher -
Click here, for Firefox 1.5 -
Click here, then restart Firefox.
If Firefox displays a message "To protect your computer, Firefox prevented this site...from installing software on your computer, "press the button labeled "Edit Options..." and click "Allow" to add the LibX download site to the list of website from which add-ons may be installed. Then click "Ok" and visit the "Install" link again.
To uninstall Harvard LibX, go to the main Firefox menu and select "Tools," then select "Add-ons,"
and use the "Uninstall" button. You will have to restart Firefox to complete the uninstall.
Internet Explorer:
Browser Requirement: Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher.
Works best with Internet Explorer 7.0 or higher.
Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or higher is required for the LibX IE installation process.

To install LibX, you must have Internet Explorer open.
- To install Harvard LibX for HOLLIS catalog,
Click here, then restart Internet Explorer.
- To install Harvard LibX for HOLLIS Classic catalog,
Click here, then restart Internet Explorer.
If Internet Explorer attempts to temporarily block your installation of LibX,
click the Information bar and follow the prompts to continue. Once the "File Download - Security Warning" dialog box appears,
click Open or Run to begin installing LibX.
To uninstall LibX, use the Windows Control Panel and follow the same steps you would take to uninstall a Windows program.
Look for "LibX for IE" in your list of installed programs.
Update
When the libX update is available, the browser should detect it and prompt the user to install the update.

Search Tips
When you use LibX HUL to search...
the HOLLIS catalog
- Keyword searches are performed as "Keywords anywhere"
- Subject searches are performed as "Subject keywords"
- Title searches are performed as "Title keywords"
- Author searches are performed as "Author keywords"
- ISBN, ISSN, and call number searches are exact
the HOLLIS Classic catalog
- Title searches are preformed as "Title beginning with..."
Note: Words in the Title field cannot be combined with words in other fields when using LibX to search HOLLIS.
- Author searches are performed as "Author keywords"
- Subject searches are performed as "Subject keywords"
- ISBN, ISSN, and call number searches are exact
- Call number searches are Library of Congress only
the E-Journals List
- Title searches are performed as "Title keywords"
- ISSN searches are exact
the E-Resources List:
- Title searches are performed as "Title keywords"
Citation Linker:
- Journal Title searches are performed as "Journal title keywords"
Phrases
If you highlight a phrase (fiscal policy) and right click to search it in the HOLLIS Classic catalog as keywords, the words in the phrase are searched as single words joined by "and" (fiscal and policy). Note that this is the same as the default for searching HOLLIS Classic catalog directly.
To search an exact phrase in HOLLIS Classic catalog, type or drag and drop
selected text into the search box on the LibX toolbar and add quotes around
the phrase ("fiscal policy"). NOTE: Using quotes in HOLLIS catalog will
not search a phrase, but will instead turn-off word stemming (adolescent
autosearching adolescence and adolescents).
